Families of students with disabilities need:
1. Information exchange
Conferences, program and classroom information, progress
reports, interpretations of their child’s academic and social needs.
2. Consumer and advocacy information
Summaries of the numerous forms that the
parents with children with disabilities must sign.
3. Home/Community program implementation
Parents want to help and often are not
properly informed on how to do so.
4. Counseling, therapy, and consultation
Identify and keep the information on such
services available, and ask the school counselor or the principal on what procedures to
take when asked by the parents for help.
5. Parent-coordinated service programs
Parents need to be able to provide and receive
services from other parents.
